In response to the rapid social changes affecting the life of
the City and County of Cardiff, City Centre
Churches Together in Cardiff, in partnership with the ancient City Parish of Saint John
the Baptist have commissioned an investigation of the city's faith
communities, and especially their relationships to the institutions of civil
society. Some have been established here for a century or longer, others
express the life of those more recently settled for work,
study, or family reasons.
It is a common
experience that the contribution made by faith communities to city life
is little recognised or valued in the deliberations, ambitions
and public image of Cardiff. We aim to change this for the better.
The purpose of the
project is to produce and make available to all interested parties fresh
information about the City's faith communities, their experiences and
perceptions of the role of religion in contemporary public life, whether they
be Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or any other faith
community.
Investigative
fieldwork will take place between October and December 2007, by a team from
Cardiff University's Regeneration
Institute, managed by Mr Roy Thomas of the Public Trust
Partnership. A report will be published in February 2008, and will be the
focus of a City-wide inter-religious conference at the end of March 2008.

Foundation and
its Faith Communities Capacity Building Fund.
